The challenge

In 2014, the Atlas Iron Mt Webber mine expanded production capacity to 6Mtpa, ushering in new challenges. Accurate metallurgical accounting for the lump product became paramount.

This presented a dual challenge: developing sampling equipment that could be modular and skid-mounted for easy installation while strictly adhering to industry sampling standards. Ensuring precise sampling of the 100tph lump product while conforming to these requirements was a puzzle in itself.

Our solution

BGC engaged us to supply stockpile sampling stations for the initial project stages. In 2015, the BGC/DRA JV called upon us again, this time for a unique Lump Sampling System.

Our approach was novel - designing modular, skid-mounted equipment that adhered rigorously to industry sampling standards. The system featured various components, including a Linear Cross Cut Mechanical Bottom Dump Cutter Sampler, Variable Speed Sample Belt Feeder and more.

The result

Consep's innovative Lump Sampling System, operationalised in November 2015, brought a transformative change to Atlas Iron Mt Webber's sampling processes. It facilitated the generation of highly representative shift composite samples, essential for precise metallurgical accounting.

The successful commissioning of this sampling station streamlined operations, ensuring accurate product assessment and bolstering the mine's standing in the industry. Consep's commitment to delivering effective solutions while adhering to industry standards was once again underscored in this successful project.
